Moms & Weddings

In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to do a post today about Moms at weddings!  A lot of times the mother of bride will help with the planning from finding the right venue to the perfect place settings.  Mom’s don’t often know how to fit in when it comes to planning a wedding because they may not want to step on the toes of the bride but want to be involved.  As a bride you have to remember this might be harder for your mom then you know because you are starting a new life.  In order to make things easier for everyone, make sure your mom knows what her duties are, what you need help with and what you don’t.  One of first things you will do together is draw up a list of guests to invite.  This is a good opportunity to also invite the mother of the groom.  If your moms haven’t met you can invite them to lunch and make the list together.  If you are doing a unity candle or something similar this is also a great opportunity to involve your moms and let them light your individual candles during the ceremony.  Your parents stand with you if you do a receiving line, make a toast if you want during the reception and the most important part is playing the host to your guests.

If you are having a crazy bachelorette party or a big bridal shower with lots of friends you might consider having a second smaller shower with just the women of your immediate family (your mom, his mom, grandmas, sisters and aunts).  This is a great opportunity to make them feel important and a part of the wedding.

Bride’s spend a lot of time looking for the perfect wedding gown and then the perfect bridesmaid dresses.  To keep your mom involved take her out to find the perfect dress for her for your wedding.  Tradition has it the mother of the bride and groom both wear the same color dress as the bridesmaids or least a color from the wedding.  Many bridal stores will offer dresses for the moms but you can also look at your local department store to find the right fit.  It’s important for your moms to feel beautiful too and finding a dress with the wedding colors in their style should be something you help them with!  Some of our favorite mother of the bride dresses in style this year:
