Bekah & Donnie

Kindred Oaks, Austin, TX

Bekah & Donnie were married at Kindred Oaks in Austin Texas.  Bekah was a referral from a photographer friend;  she was a member of Bekah’s wedding party so she wasn’t able to the photograph her most special day, for that they called in She-N-He.Donnie is hearing impaired and Bekah is a sign language interpreter.  During their wedding ceremony they had 2 interpreters, one male and one female to interpret for each of them. Although during their personal vows, they signed to each other without the translation for their guests.

“It was an amazing experience, it was best described by Donnie’s best man, he is also hearing. He says it’s amazing standing in a parking lot with a group of Donnie’s hearing impaired friends and they’re partying down, but all you can hear is quiet first pumps and occasional hand slaps.”

Matt & Amber

Pasadena, California

Our wedding day, in July, in Pasadena, California, was a hot one, but also, one of the best days I have ever lived.  Matt and I had been dating almost seven years when we got married, and on our wedding day we wanted everyone to have fun!

It is so important for the wedding to include elements that reflect both the bride and the groom’s personality!  My husband is a very traditional person and I am more of a bohemian so we were careful to include elements that represented us both.  We were married in a beautiful Spanish style Catholic Church, his family’s parish, and we infused non-traditional elements throughout the ceremony.  Instead of bouquets, the bridesmaids carried purple and green, tulip shaped, wine glasses, from Anthropologie, filled with purple rocks and lit candles. The bridal party walked in to “All You Need is Love” by The Beatles.  Their perfect, purple and green patterned dresses were also from Anthropologie.  Their dresses were one of my favorite elements of our wedding.

My dress was incredibly traditional, lots of lace, which is so far from what I thought I’d buy, so I made it my goal to offset the lace with elements that reflected my bohemian personality.  I wore a beachy, messy coif with amazing orchids.  Some of my favorite elements were those that proved unexpected.  My jewelry was so special to me.  I wore by my great-grandmother’s necklace that she wore in her July, 1900 wedding, and my earrings belonged to my mom. My sister, the maid of honor, and I were on the hunt for the perfect wedding shoes.  We were in Nordstrom and standing at opposite ends of the shoe department.  Ask us both and we will say that it seemed as though the heavens opened up and illuminated the most incredible purple Michael Kors 4” heels that I knew I must have (and I stayed in them ALL NIGHT LONG!)

The reception, held at the Embassy Suites in Arcadia, was nothing short of the best time of our lives.  It was a huge party.  My brother created a personal photo slideshow as a gift, the speeches left our stomachs aching the next day because of all the laughter, the 1980 Dom Perignon tasted amazing, and the DJ played all night long, including an extra hour that Matt and I paid for from our dollar dance money.

There were so many people that helped make this day amazing.  My step-dad created this incredible cupcake stand…he constructed it using nothing but a picture I sent him months before.  He painted it and transported it all the way from Oregon. My mom recruited the whole family to put together gorgeous lavender satchels for each person at the wedding.  The satchels had our names and the date on them.  It was really special to know that they had gone to all that trouble.

I would absolutely recommend Baron Cards for any future bride’s papergoods.  They are located in Canada, which makes their product very affordable, and their customer service is amazing!  My favorite thing about them is they are eco-friendly!  Their products are made from cotton fibers and all envelopes are made from 100% recycled paper.

Well, now that I have let you know all of my favorite, personal elements that made our day unforgettable, I would love to give the once piece of advice I love to share.  My advice for any future bride is that whatever your goal is for your day, whether it is fun and low-key, or traditional and formal, make sure to give up all control on the day of.  There is nothing you should have to deal with so therefore let those around you handle everything.  Something ALWAYS comes up, there will be snafus, big or small, or both, so let your bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law, and friends man the phone to handle anything that will arise.  If you follow this advice, your wedding day, really will be the most amazing day ever!

Winter park Farmers Market, Winter Park, FL

I love this wedding and all of the unique details the bride put into it!

Dayna styled and made almost every single detail herself. She is an amazing stylist/designer even though she doesn’t do it professionally. Ian’s suit was his dad’s from the 70’s that he had altered. He is a talented home brewer and had made a bunch of different beers himself that they served at the wedding. The entire thing was planned on a budget and styled like Anthropologie with finds Dayna had collected from etsy, craigslist, thrifting, and local antique shops.

In many places fall is a beautiful time to get married with all of the beautiful colors from the trees changing!  Many brides take advantage of this and do less with their flowers and other decor.  This is a beautiful wedding in Sedona, AZ and you can see how beautiful it was there in the fall!

Casey and Bethany were married in November at the Los Abrigados Resort and Spa.  They were married outside among the beautiful fall colors and as accent pieces used yellow, orange and green flowers throughout their wedding day.  I love weddings like this with the beautiful colors and the simple details the bride adds!

1.  Jello Inspired

This fun centerpiece is so simple!  Find different sized glass vases, fill with any color Jello-O (The trick is only using half the water specified) and before placing in the fridge to set place whatever flowers you want on the inside!

2.  Thread Spools

For this simple centerpiece find skinny glass vases or glass test tubes and stack whatever color spools of thread you want on them!  To finish place a few simple flowers inside the tube!

3.  Beans & Blooms

Super cute idea for a simple centerpiece!  Take glass vases fill with your choice of dried beans about 1/3 full and add one pretty little flower of your choice in the middle.  You can make this flower stick up and out the vase by filling the beans up higher!  To keep the flower alive place a few tablespoons of water in the bottom of the vase.

4.  Socks in the Middle

This fun idea takes different color and pattern socks and places them over small jars, glasses or vases!  Then you fill the jar with dirt and plant the flower of your choice in it!  It is so simple and so fun!  You could use the same pattern or color sock or mix it up!

5.  Trapped

This unique wedding centerpiece idea is simple a flower under a wine glass with a candle on the top.  It doesn’t get much simpler than that!  Pick any flower and color you want along with any color candle.  Mix and match the glassware of pick all of the same and group them together in the middle of the table!
